The Blind Side: Kappa Delta Shout Out!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard about Disney’s newest movie “The Blind Side” starring Sandra Bullock. “The Blind Side” is based on the true story of Michael Oher, a homeless boy adopted by Leigh Anne Tuohy and her family, who eventually became a number one NFL draft pick in 2009 by the Baltimore Ravens. The incredible story of Oher and Tuohy is an inspiration to many, and exemplifies the wonderful things that can come about from passionate determination and unremitting love.

What few know is that Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sue Mitchell, Oher’s high school tutor (played by Kathy Bates in the movie), are Greek alumni. Tuohy and Mitchell were both Kappa Deltas (Alpha Mu chapter) at the University of Mississippi where Oher eventually attended, played football and graduated from with a degree in Criminal Justice.

Since we at ChapterTalk are always on the lookout for great work in the Greek community and by Greek members, we want to give a big shout out to Kappa Delta alumni Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sue Mitchell. Michael Oher’s academic and professional success stand as tribute to the hard work and diligent effort of Tuohy and Mitchell. Their work is a great representation of the Kappa Delta sorority and the Greek community, and their example should serve as motivation to fraternity and sorority members around the country. With compassion, love, and a helping hand, any fraternity brother or sorority sister can make a difference in someone’s life!
